Advanced Photography
Prerequisite-Photo 3-4 and teacher permission, a creative mind, and strong work ethic; 12th Grade only
This class requires students to have interest, motivation, knowledge of basic computer operation, and an ability to work maturely and independently within a studio setting.
In this process oriented class, students will explore the relationship of text and image besides personal concepts and themes through a variety of photographic processes and bookmaking techniques. Using poetry, song lyrics, personal essay, and just words as prompts students will create imagery based on text. These will be presented in a variety of book forms. Some of the binding techniques students will learn are Japanese stab binding, long stitch, coptic stitch, flag books, accordian books, and self publishing through Blurb. A variety of photographic processes will be employed. Some of these are analog, digital, cyanotypes, gum bichromates, polaroid transfers, digital transfers, and others. We will work with paper, fabric, wood and metal. Artists from the community will present and lead workshops in this class. This is a class for students who want to push themselves creatively and be very hands on in a workshop type environment.
