Photo 3-4

Analog and Alternative Processes
Prerequisites: 11th or 12th Grade
Visual Studies-Digital Photography or teacher permission  This class requires students to have interest, motivation, knowledge of basic computer operation, and an ability to work maturely and independently within a studio setting.

In Photography 3-4, students will learn the basics of black and white analog photography and the necessary skills for developing and printing film.  Students will further their knowledge about composition and camera functions and will acquire a photographic vocabulary to help communicate their ideas. Students will build and expand on their knowledge of digital photographic practices.  There will be opportunities to experiment with alternative photographic processes. The history and aesthetics of photography are woven throughout the class and will be explored through various readings, slides, and films.   This class will emphasize using photography as an expressive art form, but will also look at and explore the practical applications of photography.  Opportunities for students to relate with professionals in the field of photography will be provided through guest speakers, studio tours, and other field trips. Students earn one fine arts credit for this class.  The course content is aligned with national and state fine arts standards and benchmarks.
